May is Asian Heritage Month here in Canada, which provides us with a wonderful opportunity to recognize and thank all Asian Canadians for the meaningful ways they have influenced—and will continue to influence—our past, present, and future.

Our 2020-21 Annual Report is Now Available

Mar. 15, 2022

We’re proud to share that our 2020-21 Annual Report, themed around creating a vision for the future of ASEBP and how we’ll achieve it, is now available.

When the new plan year started in September 2020, we all had a vision for what the year would bring. Little did we know, the pandemic would continue to have other plans for us. And while continuing another year of remote working, teaching, and learning may not have been what we expected, we certainly didn’t allow it to stop us.

Russia-Ukraine War

Feb. 25, 2022

Like many today, we’re following the events in Ukraine and acknowledge the disbelief, as well as the growing fear and anger felt by many of our employees, covered members, and Albertans, who have cultural ties and roots in this part of Europe.

To watch, from afar, the events unfolding in Ukraine are deeply upsetting and shake the core of our collective belief as Canadians that all people have the right to live in peace and decide their own future.

Apple for Your Thoughts

Feb. 4, 2022

Once again this year, your Teachers’ Convention will be online. We really miss seeing your faces and answering your questions in person! However, be sure to watch for our live or pre-recorded presentations at your online convention.

You may remember during last year’s Teachers’ Conventions we gave away five Apple Watches with our social media campaign. Well, as conventions are once again online and we aren’t incurring travel and other expenses we normally see during convention season, we’re turning those funds into another Apple Watch contest for 2022!

Black History Month

Feb. 3, 2022

*For a description of the special version of ASEBP’s logo depicted above, please see the end of this article.

This February, ASEBP is proud to take part in Black History Month. It’s a time to celebrate the many Black communities in Canada, as well as their contributions that have significantly shaped both our province and country.

Notice: EFAP Service Provider Privacy Breach

Feb. 1, 2022

In July 2021, Homewood Health, our third-party Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) provider, notified us that a privacy breach involving personal information related to EFAP services had occurred. At that time, it was conveyed to us that no ASEBP covered members were affected; however, following the recent completion of Homewood Health’s in-depth investigation, this has changed.

Proud to be a Top Employer

Jan. 25, 2022

Fostering wellness is at the core of what we do—from providing comprehensive health benefits, programs, and services to Alberta’s public education sector to creating a workplace that supports the employees who make this work possible.

We couldn’t be more grateful for our employees, who continue to share their passion and creativity every day and who have helped us earn the honour of being recognized as one of Alberta’s Top Employers!

New Year, New Plan Changes

Dec. 21, 2021

We’re always working to provide our covered members with a plan that benefits them today and is there for them tomorrow. To align our benefits with ever-evolving health care practices and ensure the financial stability of our plans, we review our benefit offerings frequently. As a result of our latest review, effective January 1, 2022, the benefit changes taking place will enhance the programs, services and benefits we provide, in addition to helping covered members better support themselves and their families.
