An FYI About Your ASEBP-issued T4A

ASEBP News
ASEBP is changing its approach to distributing T4A tax notices to covered members. This applies to members who receive taxable Extended Disability Benefits (EDB) (Plan D) or Wellness Spending Account (WSA) claim reimbursements. Â
Previously, T4As were primarily mailed to members, with a small portion of recipients consenting to receive electronic copies. The following details are shared for your information about the upcoming process change.Â
What is changing? Â
In 2025, ASEBP-issued T4As for taxable EDB (Plan D) or WSA claim reimbursements will be available online in members' My ASEBP account.  Â
Members do not need to provide consent to receive an electronic T4A. No action is needed if you do not want a paper copy. Â
If members also wish to receive a paper copy of their T4A, you can make this request in your My ASEBP account, beginning in January 2025.Â
Why is ASEBP making changes? Â
T4A slips contain private information, including your social insurance number (SIN) and mailing address. Providing tax notices via My ASEBP keeps personal information confidential and ensures it is not lost in the mail, stolen, or sent to an incorrect address. Â
In some instances, members move and forget to update their address. ASEBP does not independently verify mailing information.  Â
Providing T4A slips electronically, through a secure web portal, allows members to access their information faster, since they no longer must rely on, and deal with, delays due to printing and mailing, weather, or other interruptions. Â
In 2023, the Government of Canada changed the requirements for issuing T4As, outlining that recipients no longer need to provide permission to receive them through a secure portal. Â
Even if members request a paper copy, they can still access their electronic T4A in My ASEBP on or before February 28, 2025.  Â
