Access to clean, safe water is a key pillar of health and disease prevention.

Whether you were impacted by the recent water main break in Calgary, other water quality advisories and potential contamination risks, or just want to be confident about your drinking water safety, ASEBP is here to support covered members’ health and wellness.

The supports available to you can vary depending on your plan and whether you have a Wellness Spending Account (WSA) or Health Spending Account (HSA) so please check your plan in My ASEBP before buying products or services.

It is also important to check the effectiveness of products or services to ensure water is safe to use and consume, and to follow all water advisory guidelines provided by local health authorities. Health Canada provides information on drinking water treatment devices and classifications.

What is covered under the plan?

  • May be covered under HSA with a Physician’s Written Order (PWO) noting a chronic condition. 
Water filtration systems 
  • Covered under WSA under Health Support.
  • May be covered under HSA with a Physician’s Written Order (PWO) noting a chronic condition. 
UV sterilization systems 
  • Covered under WSA under Health Support.

 

Microfilters / purifiers (microbiological water purifiers) 
  • Covered under WSA under Health Support.

 

Gravity water filtration systems 
  • Covered under WSA under Health Support.

 

Professional water quality testing 
  • Covered under WSA under Health Support.

 

Water purification tablets 
  • Covered under WSA under Health Support.

 

NEW: Water coolers with 18L fillable water bottles – water can be delivered or filled at a self-serve fill station.

What is not covered under the plan?

  • Standard water filter pitchers or dispensers
  • Distilled pre-filled individual water bottles (such as Smartwater, Dasani, Fiji, Aquafina)
  • Water softener
