ASEBP’s benefit specialists have been very helpful when my family and I have travelled and had many questions about our coverage while we were in other countries.

Dean

What's your job title and where do you work? I’m a student counsellor and math teacher and have taught at Onoway Junior/Senior High School for my entire career

How long have you had ASEBP benefits? Probably as long as I’ve been a teacher—almost 32 years

Describe ASEBP in a few words: Very helpful when we really need them

Describe yourself in a word or two: Patient

What do you like to do outside of work? I really enjoy being outside, travelling and being active through many sports and outdoor activities

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day this year begins with a half block of counselling before the rest of the morning’s spent teaching junior high Knowledge & Employability and Special Education math courses. As with most teachers, many of my lunch hours are spent supervising or preparing for class. My afternoons consist of counselling for the first half before finishing the day teaching a Math 20-3 class. Having a schedule that involves both teaching and counselling is ideal for me—it really is the best of both worlds.

What do you enjoy most about ASEBP and/or your ASEBP benefits?

ASEBP’s benefit specialists have been very helpful when my family and I have travelled and had many questions about our coverage while we were in other countries.

Have you had an experience with ASEBP that really stands out in your memory?

No one specific experience, but I really appreciate how helpful they’ve been with our many questions about travelling and about the coverage available for our adult children as students.

Do you have any tips to make the most of your benefits that you think others might find useful?

Make sure that you call or contact ASEBP with any questions you have. Our experience has been that anyone we’ve spoken to has been very patient and provided all the information that we’ve needed about a specific topic.

Are you a My ASEBP website or Mobile App person? Why?

For sure a website person! Honestly, it’s because I’m old and have finally become very comfortable with using the website, so I don’t want to push my luck.

How do you like to connect with us?

By phone—as I said, I’m still old school in many ways.
