Starting January 1, 2027, ASEBP is introducing changes to enhance your coverage and better support you and your dependants. These updates reflect feedback from covered members and aim to improve your benefits.
The key changes include:
- Increased per-visit paramedical maximums
- Addition of new paramedical providers
- Improved fertility medication coverage
- Permanent program for dental coverage for medically complex conditions
Together, these changes are designed to help you and your family maintain, improve, and preserve your overall health and well-being.
Paramedical coverage enhancements
Beginning January 1, 2027, paramedical per-visit maximums will increase as follows:
- Acupuncture – $72 per visit
- Chiropractic treatment – $55 per visit
- Massage therapy – $82 per visit
- Physiotherapy – $82 per visit
- Non-surgical podiatry treatment – $70 per visit
This change helps reduce your out-of-pocket expenses by raising per-visit maximum coverage limits to better reflect today’s higher service fees.
Please note: The yearly maximum for paramedical services remains the same. Visit the Medical Services and Supplies page for more information on yearly maximums.
Also beginning January 1, 2027, ASEBP will add new paramedical service providers, with a combined annual maximum of $500.
The expanded paramedical coverage will include the following service providers and per-visit maximums:
- Osteopaths – $135 per visit
- Speech therapists – $144 per visit
- Occupational therapists – $171 per visit
- Dietitians – $162 per visit
- Audiologists – $135 per visit
- Athletic therapists – $113 per visit
- Naturopaths – $70 per visit
This new category will be available to group and supplemental plan covered members and MyRetiree Plan Enhanced Plan covered members.
MyRetiree Plan members enrolled in the Core Extended Health Plan will not have access to the new paramedical providers. However, existing naturopath coverage will continue at 70 per cent to a $200 annual maximum, with the per-visit maximum increasing to $70 effective January 1, 2027.
Improved fertility medication coverage
Starting January 1, 2027, the $800 per person annual maximum for prescription fertility medication will be removed.
Eligible fertility medications will instead be covered under your ASEBP general drug benefit with no annual or lifetime maximums.
Fertility medications can be costly, meaning some covered members currently reach the $800 maximum quickly. By removing the maximum, ASEBP aims to provide greater financial support for covered members undergoing fertility treatment.
The coverage percentage for fertility medication will continue to align with your current ASEBP drug plan.
Oral Health Exception Program
ASEBP’s Oral Health Exception pilot will become a permanent program as of January 1, 2027, to continue to support the oral health of covered members and dependants with medically complex conditions.
The Oral Health Exception program, first introduced as a pilot in 2019, provides additional dental support to eligible covered members and dependants diagnosed with cancer or non-cancerous soft-tissue tumors, as well as eligible over-age dependants with permanent disabilities.
Making the program permanent ensures that this additional support continues to be available to covered members and their dependants with these specific health needs.
More information about these changes will be shared in the coming months.
